Here’s Why You Keep Choosing Candles
Hey Candle Cousins it’s Jess here! I am excited about all the new things happening this year! I am ready to take IATV to the next level and I must say, Candle Cousins, your LOYALTY is unmatched! So thank you for continuing to be apart of this ever so growing community!
This year, Baby Kyce will be turning 3 years old! That’s right, I’ll officially have a 3 year old in just a few short days! I have also changed my title at the early education program I serve at! Thankful to my skill in small business, I am now the social media coordinator for the program! With this new position, I will be able to take my branding, and creative skills to the next level.
Enough on that for now, let’s talk about you and your candle addiction sis! How many candles have you purchased in the last few months? When have you burned those candles and who was with you while they were burning? Were you listening to a playlist or running a certain song back? Is there a particular place In your house where you like to burn them? Who does that candle remind you off? Or does it take you back to a certain moment in time?
Every-single candle you burn-whether it’s one you grabbed from a big retailer or your favorite black woman-owned handcrafted favorite (IATV)-has a story. From the way it was made, to that very first burn, every candle carries a path of its own, just like all of us.
Candles are more than just a vessel with wax, a wick and fragrance oil. It is a purposeful tangible to remind you to choose joy and remain confident in the story behind who you are created to be. After all, baby, YOU ARE THE VIBE!
So let’s get into the beginning of the story. Each candle is made by a mama, early childhood advocate and praise and worship singer. Reason #1 Candles turn your space into a cozy safe haven That’s right, you get on demand ambiance the moment you light your candle. It is known that the moment you light your candle, it sends signals to your brain that it is time to unwind, relax and get cozy.
Reason #2 Candles make you remember How many times have you smelled a smell, heard a song or watched a movie that you hadn't in a long time? Do you remember how warm you got inside or how that smile began to light up the whole room when you inhaled deeply and started going down memory lane? Oh how you remember. Some of my favorite memories come when I smell a smell, thinking of my loved ones that are forever watching over me and all of their smiles and old memories we shared.
Reason #3 Candles are your mindfulness moments With my early education degree and experience, it is so important for you to model the behavior you want to see, especially when it comes to the maturing of their emotions. In the many early childhood education classes , I have had the opportunity to steward over, a “Mindfulness Moment” or “Safe Place” had been created in these rooms. In this corner, kiddos are encouraged to take their time and notice what they are feeling, whether big or small. They had tools with pictures of their family, pictures where they’d see themselves in happy states. The kiddos were given essential oils to encourage deep breathing with other techniques. As adults, we still have to remind ourselves. Candles are those little reminders to inhale and exhale.
