The Boy Is Mine 2025 Brandy & Monica

I got to see my vocal mama on Sunday 🖤😊.

The show was all I’d imagined plus some. Now I’m a sucker for a band so I am sad that they didn’t make an appearance but I understand.

I have to admit, when I first heard the announcement about the tour I didn’t know how they would make this work, Who’d open for who in this show 😏?

The world indeed likes to pretend they can’t hear who the REAL queen of R&B is and who Whitney REALLY passed the torch down to but hey that’s between you, ya ears and God, ya heard?

Before I talk about Brandy and Monica I must say this, if I had to choose between my favorite out of the openers, it’s Kelly who did it for me. Muni is my girl but I just would have loved her going a different direction this time around but of course, she did her good singing. It was great to hear, “Time Machine", “Superpowers” (which I’d never really paid too much attention to until hearing it live), “Hrs&Hrs” and of course “Made For Me.” I’m really feeling her new song “Delulu,” which is me right now (as my sister says) because every time somebody asks me how I enjoyed the show, I share with them that I got to sing my favorite songs with her, B•Rockaaaa 🤣.

Now, KELLY! I loved every minute of Kelly’s set and hey now, Kelly got hits! Let us not forget, “Motivation,” “Ice” and “Kisses Down Low.” Not to mention, I just felt like I was getting a sneak peek of what it is going to look like when Destiny’s Child goes on this reunion tour🤞🏾! She sang her verse on “Girl.” The nostalgia flowing through my body!

What I loved, was she talked us through the set. You can tell that she was genuinely appreciative to be on the tour. When she talked about “Girl,” she talked about how this was a real situation between her and the girls. She talked about all the years she’s been doing this and how her fans really do rock with her! She looked darn good too. I've really been a sucker for red polish lately. She closes her set with a snippet of “Dilemmia.”

Now, the girls! The ladies, the QUEENS! I know Miss Whitney is resting and happy that these two are on tour together. I know many believe that this, what seems, newly brewed connection is unreal or just for the coin, but I’d like to think that yes, they saw how much of an impact they made in music and in R&B history with their C-19 Verzuz but, I believe it is unspoken, the bond that they’ve had to build to get this tour in the works and to keep it running smoothly. There is so much on the backend that people don’t know about. They provide balance to one another, with just their aura.

Now Miss Brandy, my vocal mom yes did have a distasteful performance for some not finishing the Saturday set in Chicago but if you really want to know my opinion, I’d like to believe that their was an issue with sound. Brandy is a professional and ain’t risking a bad sounding song for none of ya so I don’t blame her and I’m glad that she got her dehydration under control before the Indy set 🤣.

Back to the show, I love how it was formatted similar to the verses and they basically went back in for hit for hit or mini set after mini set, coming together at the end to do the Whitney Tribute and The Boy is Mine. Could you believe my phone was dead by this point? Although, I was sad I didn’t get the footage, I am glad I got to enjoy it without the pressure of needing to capture. I am hoping that at my next couple of concerts I can find more balance in this.

Brandy didn’t miss a beat, “I Wanna Be Down,” “Best Friend” all the classics but my heart melted when she sang “He is.” That was unexpected! I waited for “When You Touch Me” but maybe she’ll sing it when I pull up to the Florida show in December 😆. My delusion again!

Now we all know that I am indeed Team Brandy but I will always have respect for Monica. This was actually my second time seeing her in concert as she came to Indy a few years back. I was happy to hear “Just One of Them Days” and “For You I Will.” It was also nice seeing her clip singing with Whitney when she was younger too.

As much as I love my vocal mama down, I gotta admit, she might wanna stay home during that ATL set! Because Miss Monica gone show OUT. But she still knows who she studies next to God Mama Whitney 😏🖤.
